SpRoAt   Back To Home Page JUSTIN DEAN SPROAT Love You Forever. . . It is with extreme sadness that the family of Justin Dean Sproat announce his sudden passing. Justin's death was senseless. He was taken from us on Saturday, August 6th 2005 at the young age of 17 years. To know Justin was to love him. He had a way of drawing people to him. His spirit was rowdy but pure, and his love of life was contagious. He had a smile that could light up a room and melt your heart. Friends and family were everything to Justin. His room was always full with old and new friends. His parents loved the energy his friends brought into their home, but often wondered if they were running a home or a hostel. This week, Justin's friends still gathered, drawn to a familiar place to mourn and try to make sense of this tragedy and not knowing where else to go to comfort each other. Justin would have loved having all of them there, but would have wondered why there was no loud rap music. Justin loved to play hard and compete and was an accomplished athlete. He loved hockey winning City's with the Midget III Knights in 2003/04 and playing with the Midget II Knights 2004/05. When he wasn't playing hockey, he was playing lacrosse. He helped the Saskatoon Tigers and Saskatoon Snipers win Box Lacrosse League, City and Provincial titles in 2002 and 2004. He also was a member of the Saskatoon Scorpions Field Lacrosse team in 2003/04 and the Saskatchewan Provincial Field Lacrosse Team in 2003, representing Saskatchewan in the Alumni Cup in Calgary. Justin was always up for an outdoor adventure whether it was chasing frogs when he was a little guy to landing the big one while fishing with his family and friends. Like most teenagers, Justin was a night owl getting up for school in the morning was a real challenge. Justin loved to play cards and was always up to a game of Cribbage or Kaiser with his friends and family. Justin surrounded himself with music. He and his friends worked at ensuring stereo systems that could rock the neighborhood were in both his truck and his sister's car. He enjoyed working at Panago Pizza and was saving his salary and tips for a trip to Mexico someday. Justin was born on May 23rd, 1988 in Rosetown, Saskatchewan and has lived in Lloydminster, Regina and for the last 13 years in Saskatoon. He attended elementary school at Sister O'Brien and St. Peter. He had a go at most of the high schools in the west, and was most recently enrolled at Mount Royal Collegiate. Justin, you will be forever missed, and forever remembered by your Mom and Dad, Dean and Diana; sister, Chaela (Curtis Barry); Grandpa & Grandma; George and Sylvia Sproat; Nana & Pa; Dusan and Sylvia Maljan; your Aunties, Uncles and Cousins, your like brother-best friend, Brendon Kleiter, numerous friends, cousins, relatives and your pets, Yogi, Smokey and Stimpy. Justin was predeceased by his cousins: Joshua Moffatt, Michael Sproat and Dale Sproat, all taken too soon, and his best 4-legged friend, Bear. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Lung Association of Saskatchewan (1231 8th Street East Saskatoon, SK. S7H 0S5) or the Kids Sport Saskatoon (510 Cynthia Street Saskatoon, SK. S7L 7K7) would be appreciated. The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m, Wednesday, August 10th at the Western Development Museum (2610 Lorne Ave). Interment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Arrangements in care of John Schachtel MOURNING GLORY FUNERAL SERVICES (978-5200).

May 23rd 1988 - August 6th 2005
"Gone But Never Forgotten" On the 6th day of August, 2005 in the City of Saskatoon, seventeen year old Justin Sproat was murdered by a single stab wound to the heart. His death has shaken the sprits of many Saskatchewan people who knew and loved him. This tragedy has also exposed many faults in our Canadian Justice System. Bailey Lonechild, eighteen years of age, was charged with the murder of Justin Sproat, and on the 29th day of September, 2005 was released on bail.

This decision was based mainly on two premises, namely: 1) that Lonechild had no prior criminal record, and 2) that he was determined an unlikely threat to flee. Shockingly, the Court chose to overlook the fact that Lonechild intentionally and knowingly killed another human being. Lonechild did not know his victim, and, therefore, he is a threat to the general public. Why should Lonechild get to celebrate Christmas with his family, while the family and friends of his victim endure a horribly painful season
of sadness without their loved one?
